Fund Raising Activities - 2011

$200,000 Challenge Grant
CHCURC received a challenge grant offer in 2010, whereby a grant of $200,000 could be obtained if we raise a matching $200,000. The grant stipulates that the resulting $400,000 would be used to purchase a property, renovate it and offer it as a rental property on the Avenue. To obtain more specific information, view the [Challenge Match Letter] which can be printed as a PDF. We hope that you will be able to help us with this tremendous opportunity. Also, the Pledge Card can be printed out from the home page. To date we have completed a number of fund-raising events as detailed below.

An Evening at Laurel Court: Run for the Roses
May-7-2011

Was A Great Success and Raised 15K!
Thank You to the 206 individuals who attended this great event. The comments we received were very positive and our guests had fun "betting" on the Derby, voting for the best hats, being served Mint Juleps and listening to the smooth music played by the Cunningham duo. Then there was the open bar & table of derby fare that was continuous until the event closed around 10:30 pm.

Our silent auction was a great success with many items going for more then the stated value. The donations this year were extremely nice and a special thank you to the all the business and individual donors. A complete listing of the donors will be found on the Sponsors page.

Challenge Match Event!
"Italian Night" at the
College Hill Coffee Co. and Casual Gourmet
May 22nd, 2011
College Hill Coffee Co. recently hosted an Italian Night to raise funds for CHCURC's Matching Grant Program. The event was quickly sold-out and many were turned away as seating was at capacity.  Guests enjoyed a gourmet Italian dinner featuring homemade lasagna, roasted vegetable orzo and salad by Chefs Diane and Ellen Brewster, with Madisono’s gelato and pizelles for dessert.  Additional funds were raised with raffled prizes, Split-the-Pot, and owner Tina Stoeberl’s donation of 20% of all retail sales during the evening.

Thanks to generous contributions of time, effort and food, CHCC was able to donate 100% of the evening’s proceeds to CHCURC with no deduction for expenses.  The two-hour event raised a total of $1,834. Young CHCC servers (Ray Lanser, Emma Webster, Sysilie Hill and Becca Risch) donated their time for the event. Tina also wants to thank Diane Brewster and Ellen Brewster for a fabulous meal and Gordon Food Service, Restaurant Depot and Madisono's Gelato for their donations.

CHCURC wishes to thank all who attended and so generously donated bar tips and bought raffle tickets. Your support will help us reach our Challenge Match Goal.

A special thanks to those friends of CHCURC and CHCURC members who worked the event. Thank you to Merle Burse and Juanita Canfield who kept the accounting, to Meg Hammond, Dave Schwarts, Kevin Caron and Doug Kinnett, our Guest Bartenders, to Carol Templeton, who sold Split-the-Pot and to Mike Cappel, who kept the guests informed. Finally, a very special thank you to Emily who really makes the drink service run smoothly and to Matt, who set the event up and made certain that everything went well.
